Family History

For the finals in Emerging Technology, I had to create a family tree for my family. As I went further into my family I interrogated my grandmother, Gloria, and my great- grandmother, Myra. i used Google Docs to write down any answers to my questions. I used this information to make a detailed family tree on Prezi:

After gathering more information, I made an infographic over my family on Piktochart:

Blog Post of the Day:
What are you doing for Thanksgiving? Do you have any traditions? Go in to detail about your plans for the 5 day weekend.

Over the awesome 5 day weekend I will grant myself to eat so much turkey I will explode. I only really like turkey. I hate ham. Ham is awful. Turkey is great especially if the turkey is heated. I love heated turkey. Over the weekend I will go to my grandma's house most likely because we do that every year. They just moved into a new house after living in their previous one for around 50 years. This is their first Thanksgiving in the new house. It is much more spacious and Thanksgiving should be less crowded than usual.

Thanks giving day pictures

Blog Post of the Day:
Reflecting on the comments and grade of your stop-motion animation... what you would do differently if you had to do it all over again? Would you manage your time better? Find better lighting for your photos? Come up with a better idea? Explain what you would change about your video.

Reflecting on my grade I should have tried to stabilize the camera more. I tried duct taping the camera however that didn't work. I didn't have a tripod at my disposal. I should have used a tripod. I could have also used natural light instead of artificial light. I feel that if I did those two things my grade would've been better.

Blog Post of the Day:
Tell me about your weekend.

My weekend was pretty joyful. I worked on homework for most of the weekend. I had a honors biology essay I had to write. That took at least half the day. For the other half of Saturday I worked on my ELA questions. Those were horrifyingly awful. All eight you had to decipher before you could answer them. They used really intricate words. It was horrendous. Then I had to study for my Spanish test. So, as you can see my weekend was joyful.

Blog Post of the Day:
Tell me about your experience with taking your stop-motion photos. What problems did you run in to? What did you find difficult about the process? What would you go back and change about HOW you took the photos? Explain yourself.

I officially hate stop motion animation. It took around 3 hours to take all 345 pictures by myself. The most difficult thing was I didn't have a tripod so I had to use duck tape to put hold my camera in place. The shots were sometimes off because of that. I would go back and get a tripod next time. Also I would get one of those clickers that takes pictures for me so I could just move the objects. That would have saved so much time.

What is stop motion animation? If you don't know, look it up! Explain.

Stop motion animation is a video or collage of a bunch of pictures being taking whilst the object or thing being photographed is being moved. When the photos are played back at a high speed it looks like a video.

Five Frame Storyboard

Wednesday, November 5, 2014

Blog Post of the Day:
Tell me about your idea for your 5 frame story board. What is the plot? How do you plan to make the story creative? Who's the main character? What is the beginning, middle and end? Tell me about your plan of attack.

My story for my 5 frame story board is moving. The main character is the homeowner who is moving into a different home. The beginning is the homeowner packing the boxes, middle is selling the house, and the end is getting settled into the new home.

Blog Post of the Day:
Yesterday you edited and uploaded photos to your blog. Tell me more about your photos. HOW did you edit them? Why did you choose the photos that you did? Explain your assignment.

I edited my pictures by increasing or decreasing the light in the photos. For most of them it was increasing the light. I did darken and intensify the colors in the pictures a good example is the picture of the railroad crossing sign. In the original the sky was more purple but when I edited I made the sky color blue. I picked the five pictures by taking the ones that I thought were my best pictures.

Edited versus Original Pictures

Explain any background or knowledge you have about photography and photo editing. Do you like it? Do you have any interest?

I know how to take photos.  I also know how to Photoshop them. Other than that I know nothing about photography.

Tell me about your weekend. Share pics!

Over the weekend I watched the Missouri game in which they utterly dominated Florida. I also watched the Chiefs when by three points with around 21 seconds left in the game. However, the coolest of all the things was that I witnessed Peyton Manning's 509th touchdown, the most ever thrown by one quarterback.

Below is a letter written to the editor who wrote the article 'Enforcement of dress code creates negative effect' that your blogged about last week. Most of you wrote on your blog that you agreed with the writer. What are your thoughts after reading the letter below and seeing a different perspective. Are they the same? Are the different? Do you agree? Disagree? Explain yourself

I still think the same way that I thought a week ago. However, I still don't believe I should get a say in this because I am a guy and this problem is mostly affecting the girls. Therefore, my opinion probably shouldn't be considered in this debate. I do believe that the dress code should be revisited. This is because girls should be able to where short shorts (not that short) and still look (semi) professional.

The perfect curriculum would be real life skills. Classes that should be in it are: taxes, finance, job interviews, etc. They would be called Life Skills. You would study how to perform tasks like filing taxes, or financing your money, or learning how to do well on job interviews. I would spend my class time preparing for the real world. They would be different because I wouldn't be learning about basic things but things that will actually benefit me in my life.

Gay Discrimination Infograph

Blog post of the day:
The following article was in the September issue of The Tiger Print. Read the article (even if you already have) and respond to it below. What do you think? Do you agree? Disagree? Consider all perspectives of the article while you respond.

I believe the article to be true. Short shorts and "spaghetti straps" don't distract males from learning. Personally I have never been distracted by this type of thing. The "thumb rule" isn't the best because if someone has longer hands than legs the will have to wear longer shorts. There should be changes made to the dress code.

Tell me about your weekend! If you don't have anything fun to share, tell me about the city you live in. What do you love about Kansas City? Do you have a favorite place in the city? Favorite team? :) Favorite event? Explain.

During the weekend I witnessed the longest post season game between he Washington Nationals and the San Francisco Giants. The Giants won the game in the 18th inning. I also watched the Kansas City game. I watched Billy Butler steal a base which must have been embarrassing for the Angels. I also watched a really bad game by the Chiefs. My favorite sports team is the Chiefs. However, my favorite event is probably the Royal's games. There are too many drunks at the Chiefs games. Every time I have gone I have sat next to or by a drunk.

What is an infographic? If you don't know, go look it up. Read about it and then in your own words tell me what an infographic is. What do infographics do? How do they work? What makes a really good infographic?

An infographic is chart or graph that visually shows information, data, or knowledge. Infographics show us information, data, or knowledge. They help us to find trends in data and make larger sets of data easier to read. A good infographic is made up colors that stand out and use a good format.

I went to homecoming on Saturday with Gabby Wilcox. We went to the Red Door Grill and took pictures at Gezer Park. I had a great time. We went to dinner around 6:30 and arrived at the dance around 8:45. I danced and enjoyed myself Saturday. On Sunday, I watched Netflix the whole day.

Imagine Mr. Bacon has asked you to suggest one way of improving Blue Valley High School to make it a better place for students. Think about the changes that are needed at your school. Pick one change you feel would really make a difference and explain what it is and why you'd make the change.

The biggest change that is needed pushing back the start time of school. Everyday, except Thursday, I have to get up at 6:00 to catch my bus. In order to get the adequate amount of sleep I need to go to bed around 9:00. My schedule never works around that time. Usually I get in bed at 11:00 even when I try to go to bed earlier. I the start time is pushed back to 9:00, which it is on Thursday,   I feel that people would perform better in the earlier hours of the day.

What is email? When do you use email in your own personal life? List reasons and ways that people use email. What do you know about "email etiquette"?

E-mail is mail through the internet. I use email when need to send online files or communicate with businesses. Businesses use emails for customer service and send out deals. They do this so they can stay organized and it is easy to send out the deals. I know that you need to have correct grammar and spelling in emails.

Now that you've been in Emerging Technology for several weeks... what do you think? Do you think the web tools (Drive, Evernote, Bubbl, etc.) are helpful to you? Do you think they will be helpful throughout high school or even college? Explain.

I think all the things that we have learned will help me throughout high school and college. These will help me stay organized when writing assignments and when researching.  They will help me keep track of my ideas and keep all of my research websites in one place. This is good for when you need them they are all in the same place you don't need to go through your browser history or go to a bunch of sites. drive will especially help me in college because it's free and I don't need to spend hundreds of dollars on Microsoft Word.

Do you enjoy writing? When do you enjoy it? What kind of writing do you enjoy? Why do you think the ability to write is so important no matter what kind of writing it is? Give an example that you enjoyed writing or hated writing. Why?

I like writing some types of stories like fictional stories. Although it is important to write so you can express yourself and communicate I don't like to have a set outline or given topic to write about. I like writing fictional because there is no specific topic to write about. For example I enjoyed wrting a short story in seventh grade.

I believe this quote to be true. Say you don't prepare for a test, you most likely  won't know the answers to the test and do bad. So because you didn't study you failed the test. If you would've studied you most likely did good on the test and didn't fail the test.

What is the importance of research? Why do you need to know how to research? What have you learned in high school about researching topics and finding quality resources? Have you had a helpful teacher that has taught you to research? Explain.

The importance of research is to learn and question further. You need to know how to research to answer questions. I have learned how to find quality information by using different ways of searching and finding quality resources by making sure that the information is legit. All of the teachers I've had have taught me to research

Kids these days spend too much time on their phones or electronics. Back in my day we had 3 channels and cartoons were only on Saturdays. We had to play outside and have relationships. Gas, don't even get me started about gas prices...

My global issue is discrimination of homosexuals. I already know that the Christian religion is a big contributor to this problem. I'm looking forward to finding out how to stop it. I'm looking forward to it because I'm a big gay rights supporter.
